INSTITUTE OF CELL BIOLOGY
Faculty of Medicine,
University of Ljubljana, Slovenia
Founded in 1923, the Institute of Cell Biology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, conducts and promotes interdisciplinary research on issues related to epithelial cell biology. The basic and applicative research is focused on the epithelium of the urinary bladder – urothelium, and its differentiation, proliferation, cell death and carinogenesis. Furthermore, special attention is paid to tissue regeneration, transepithelial resistance and internalisation of nanoparticles as vehicles for application of cytostatics and antibiotics.
The mission of the Institute of Cell Biology is to use the expert knowledge in cell biology and microscopy to perform groundbreaking research, which will provide further insight into the cellular and molecular basis of the urothelium and advance the treatment of urothelium-associated diseases.
The Institute of Cell Biology is also actively involved in teaching in the field of cell biology undergraduate and doctoral students at several faculties at the University of Ljubljana.
