In a study published in Scientific Reports, we characterized the esophageal adenocarcinoma cell line FLO-1 under different in vitro culture conditions, as culturing conditions significantly affect cell characteristics. We have shown that FLO-1 cells cultured at the air-liquid interface form 3D clusters or spheres which provide a reliable and straightforward in vitro model that should be considered in tumor biology and anticancer drug studies to increase the predictive efficiency of current in vitro approaches.
